Run the Race (2019)

My Review

“Run the Race” is the story of two brother who rely on high school sports to survive the trauma of their mother’s death and their alcoholic father’s subsequent abandonment. Director Chris Dowling (“Where Hope Grows” 2014) put together a lucid film with good production values, memorable performances, and good writing. It keeps an even pace throughout the 101 minute running time. Dowling co-wrote the screenplay with Jake McEntire and Jason Baumgardner.

The cast includes Tanner Stine and Evan Hofer as the brothers, Kristoffer Polaha as their Dad, Frances Fisher as their grandmother, Mario Van Peebles as Pastor Baker, Mykelti Williamson as Coach Hailey, and Kelsey Reinhardt as Ginger. The watchable faith-based film “Run the Race” was a modest hit at the box office for executive producer Tim Tebow, Reserve Entertainment, and Roadside Attractions. It was filmed in Alabama and Florida.
