My Review

“Downton Abbey: A New Era” continues the story of the Crawley family as they travel to the south of France to investigate a family member’s newly inherited villa. This sequel to “Downton Abbey” (2019) also features a film crew renting the Abbey to film a silent movie, which pays for much-need repairs to the house. Director Simon Curtis (“My Week with Marilyn” 2011) kept up the high standards of the first film and the television series (2010-2015). Series creator Julian Fellowes wrote the outstanding screenplay.

Most of the core cast returned including Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Maggie Smith, Jim Carter, Phyliss Logan, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Penelope Wilton, Imelda Staunton, Joanne Froggart, Brendan Coyle, Allen Leech, Dominic West, and Samantha Bond as Lady Painswick. “Downton Abbey: A New Era” was a hit at the box office for Carnival Films and Universal Pictures. It was filmed in England, Scotland, and France. The key filming location was Highclere Castle in Hampshire.
