Yesterday (2019)

My Review

“Yesterday” is a fantasy comedy film about a struggling musician who enters an alternate reality where he is the only person to remember the Beatles, and becomes famous performing their songs. Director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Richard Curtis put together a hokey film with an implausible premise and mediocre execution. The movie is just plain boring making for a very long 116 minute running time. British director Boyle has a history of making chaotic and uninteresting films like “Trainspotting” (1996) and “Steve Jobs” (2015).

The cast includes Himesh Patel, Lily James, Ed Sheeran, Kate McKinnon, Joel Fry, Sophia Di Martino, and Lamorne Morris as head of marketing. The unwatchable “Yesterday” was a modest success in theatrical release for Perfect World Picture, Working Title Films, and Universal Pictures. It was filmed in England, where the story is set.
