My Review

“The Odyssey” is an action film telling the story of Odysseus, an early Greek king, who embarks on a long and perilous journey home after the Trojan War, encountering all sorts of strange creatures. Director-screenwriter Christopher Nolan (“Oppenheimer” 2023) adapted the story from Homer’s ancient poem “Odyssey,” written around the 7th or 8th century B. C. Nolan took some major liberties with the original material, and shot the entire movie on IMAX film cameras.

The cast includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as his wife Penelope, Tom Holland as his son Telemachus, Charlize Theron as Calypso, Samantha Morton as Circe, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, Lupita Nyongo as Helen of Troy, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, Himesh Patel as Eurylochus, Bill Irwin as Cyclops, Elliot Page as Sinon, James Remar as a blind prophet, and Will Yun Lee as Anchialus.

The very exciting “The Odyssey,” with a 173 minute running time, is (so far) the second highest grossing film of 2026 for producer Emma Thomas, Syncopy, and Universal Studios. It was filmed in Greece, Italy, Morocco, Western Sahara, Scotland, Iceland, and at the Universal Studios sound stages in Los Angeles.
