My Review

“Mr. & Mrs. Smith” is a screwball comedy film about a couple who find out that their three year marriage is not valid due to a clerical error. The comedy is well directed by Alfred Hitchcock (“Rebecca” 1940), who is known for his suspense-filled thrillers. This is the only pure comedy film he was ever involved with. The screenplay was penned by Norman Krasna.

Carole Lombard and Robert Montgomery expertly play the unfortunate couple, roles perfect for their ranges of acting. Co-stars include Gene Raymond, Jack Carson, Lucile Watson, Esther Dale, and Philip Merivale. “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” was a hit at the box office for RKO Radio Pictures.
