My Review

The Marx Brothers’ shenanigans continue in “The Big Store.” Director Charles Reisner has Groucho, Chico, and Harpo Marx trying to save a department store from being stolen from its owner, played by Margaret Dumont, a frequent co-star in the trio’s pictures, this one being her last. This was the eleventh Marx Brothers film out of thirteen.

As usual, musical numbers and romantic subplots abound. Actor-singer Tony Martin helps out in both departments, along with co-stars Virginia Grey, Virginia O’Brien, Douglas Dumbrille, Anna Demetrio, and Charles Lane. “The Big Store” made a modest profit at the box office for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
