My Review

“They Came to Cordura” is a western drama about a U. S. Army officer assigned to award medals to certain officers even as he escorts them across the desert to the rail station at Cordura. He is also accompanied by a wealthy female landowner accused of treason. The difficulties proceed from there, in what really is a psychological drama, well directed by Robert Rossen (“The Hustler” 1961), who co-wrote the engrossing screenplay with Ivan Moffat. The film did not have any slow moments for the entire 123 minute running time.

The cast includes Gary Cooper, Rita Hayworth, Van Heflin, Tab Hunter, Richard Conte, Michael Callan, Dick York, Robert Keith, Carlos Romero, and Edward Platt. “They Came to Cordura” was a box office disappointment for Goetz Pictures, Baroda Productions, and Columbia Pictures. It was filmed in Indio, California, and Sonora, Mexico.
