My Review

“Along Came Jones” is a B-western movie starring Gary Cooper parodying his own strong, silent cowboy persona. Director Stuart Heisler (“The Glass Key” 1942) and screenwriter Nunnally Johnson basically gave producer-star Gary Cooper a chance to spoof his own career. It was based on a 1944 novel “Useless Cowboy” by Alan Le May.

The cast includes Gary Cooper, Loretta Young, Dan Duryea, William Demarest, Frank Sully, Don Costello, and Arthur Loft as the Sheriff. “Along Came Jones” was a modest box office hit for producer Gary Cooper, International Pictures, Cinema Artists, and RKO Radio Pictures. International Pictures merged with Universal Studios to become Universal-International on October 1, 1946.
