Esther Williams and Van Johnson were so successful in 1945’s “Thrill of a Romance” that MGM paired them in a second picture called “Easy to Wed.” This winsome musical comedy was expertly directed by Edward Buzzell (“Honolulu” 1939) from a screenplay penned by Dorothy Kingsley, an adaptation of the 1936 screwball comedy “Libeled Lady.”
The supporting cast includes Lucille Ball, Keenan Wynn, Cecil Kellaway, June Lockhart, Paul Harvey, Ben Blue, Jonathan Hale, Grant Mitchell, Josephine Whittell, and Ethel Smith playing the organ, all in beautiful Technicolor. “Easy to Wed” was a big hit at the box office for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It was filmed entirely at the MGM soundstages in Culver City.
