My Review

In 1946, Orson Welles directed and starred in an excellent dramatic picture called “The Stranger.” This is the story of a U. S. government agent tracking a high-ranking Nazi fugitive to a town in Connecticut. Outstanding directing by Welles and a lucid screenplay by Anthony Veiller, John Huston, Decla Dunning, and Victor Trivas give us an exciting movie with a beginning, a middle, and a satisfying conclusion.

The cast includes Orson Welles, Edward G. Robinson, Loretta Young, Richard Long, Philip Merivale, Billy House, and Erskine Sanford as a party guest. “The Stranger” was a box office success for International Pictures and RKO Radio Pictures. The film had one Oscar nod for Best Original Story (Trivas). This was the first Hollywood film to include actual documentary footage of the Holocaust.
