My Review

“The Paradine Case” is a courtroom drama about a young Italian woman in London accused of murdering her older, English husband. The Master of Suspense, director Alfred Hitchcock, does it again with the help of an all-star cast and an excellent screenplay by Alma Reville (Mrs. Hitchcock), James Bridie, David O. Selznick, and Ben Hecht. It was adapted from the 1933 novel of the same name by Robert Hitchens.

The cast includes Gregory Peck, Ann Todd, Alida Valli, Charles Laughton, Ethel Barrymore, Charles Coburn, Louis Jourdan, and Leo G. Carroll. “The Paradine Case” was a flop at the box office for producer David O. Selznick and Vanguard Films. It received one Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actress (Barrymore).
