My Review

“The Paleface” is a Western comedy where Bob Hope plays a quack dentist from the east coast who moves west and runs into Calamity Jane. She marries the dentist to hide her identity from outlaws who are searching for her. The crazy comedy was well handled by director Norman Z. McLeod (“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” 1947) and screenwriters Edmund Hartmann and Frank Tashlin.

The cast includes Bob Hope, Jane Russell, Robert Armstrong, Jackie Searl, Clem Bevans, and Charles Trowbridge as the governor. “The Paleface” was third highest grossing film of 1948 for Paramount Pictures. It was filmed in Technicolor at various locations around Southern California, including at Paramount studios in Hollywood.
