My Review

“For the Love of Spock” is a biographical documentary directed by Adam Nimoy that explores the life of his father Leonard Nimoy. It takes a comprehensive look at the entire life of the elder Nimoy from childhood to his famous role as Mr. Spock of “Star Trek” fame to his later years and roles. The film was release about a year after he passed away in February, 2015, at the age of 83.

Among the celebrities interviewed are William Shatner, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Keonig, George Takei, Catherine Hicks, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, J. J. Abrams, and Jason Alexander, who has no connection to the “Star Trek” franchise except that he is a big Trekkie fan. (In fact, Jason Alexander did appear on the “Think Tank” episode of “Star Trek: Voyager” in 1999.)

Bill Shatner recalled how he went to Gene Roddenberry about concerns that the Spock character was becoming more popular than his Captain James T. Kirk. He said that Roddenberry “wisely” replied that Spock’s wide-spread acceptance would only enhance the show and Kirk’s general popularity along with it. Every fan of “Star Trek” should enjoy the absorbing and informative “For the Love of Spock” from 455 Films.
