The Marvel Cinematic Universe has come out with its most unusual superhero to date – “Doctor Strange.” Actor Benedict Cumberbatch uses his considerable acting skills and offbeat persona to portray Dr. Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon who loses the use of his hands in an automobile accident, only to gain superpowers from the Ancient One and Karl Mordo.
Director Scott Derrickson (“The Day the Earth Stood Still” 2008) kept the picture moving at a good pace for the two hour duration. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts and C. Robert Cargill. Honorable mention goes to Michael Giacchino for his wonderful soundtrack and to cinematographer Ben Davis and his crew for their work in making “Doctor Strange” a sight to behold in 3-D.
The cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, Rachel MacAdams as Christine, Benedict Wong as Wong, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, Benjamin Bratt as Jonathan, Mads Mikkelsen as Kaecilius, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Stan Lee as a bus rider. “Doctor Strange” was a big hit at the box office for producer Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Studios, and The Walt Disney Company.
This was the 14th movie in the MCU franchise, filmed in Nepal, New York City, London, and Hong Kong. The only sequel to date is “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (2022). A third in the series is in early development at Marvel Studios in Burbank. Meanwhile, Doctor Strange has made appearances in “Thor: Ragnarok” (2017), “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018), “Avengers: End Game” (2019), and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021).
