Maid in Manhattan (2002)

My Review

“Maid in Manhattan” is a romantic comedy about a maid who is mistaken for a wealthy socialite by a New York politician. The comedy and drama proceeds from there, only to fall flat on its face due to sloppy directing by Wayne Wang (“The Joy Luck Club” 1993) from a terrible screenplay by Kevin Wade and the story by Edmond Dantes.

Performances by the cast are mediocre at best, led off by Jennifer Lopez in the title role. She has a very limited acting range. Co-stars also disappoint including Ralph Fiennes, Natasha Richardson, Stanley Tucci, Amy Sedaris, Bob Hoskins, Frances Conroy, and Tyler Posey. “Maid in Manhattan” was successful at the box office for Columbia Pictures, Revolution Studios, and Sony Pictures Releasing. The film was made in Manhattan, with Jennifer Lopez nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress.
