The Mighty Ducks (1992)

My Review

“The Mighty Ducks” is a sports comedy film about an attorney who get a DUI and is sentenced to community service coaching a hopeless youth hockey team. He has difficulties motivating the kids to win a championship, and the comedy and drama proceeds from there. In what is admittedly a stock rags-to-riches sports movie, director Stephen Herek (“Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” 1989) does the best he can with the formulaic script by Steven Brill. There is nothing exceptional about this often dull movie.

The cast includes Emilio Estevez, Joss Ackland, Lane Smith, Jussie Smollett, Joshua Jackson, and Josef Sommer. “The Mighty Ducks” was a hit at the box office for Walt Disney Pictures, filmed in Minnesota and California. Sequels were released in 1994 and 1996.
