My Review

Paul Newman plays an aging police officer working in a violent area of New York City in “Fort Apache, The Bronx.” Director Daniel Petrie (“Rocket Gibraltar” 1988) did his best at putting together a picture with good production values and a wonderful script by Heywood Gould.

However, Newman seemed out of place as a cop working the beat in the Bronx. In addition, Ed Asner as his police captain was also out of his element, and delivered a mediocre and sluggish performance. Co-stars include Ken Wahl, Danny Aiello, Rachel Ticotin, Pam Grier, Kathleen Beller, and Paul Gleason. “Fort Apache, The Bronx” was a success at the box office for executive producer David Susskind, Time-Life Films, and 20th Century Fox.
