Passengers (2016)

My Review

“Passengers” is a science fiction film featuring great chemistry between stars Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt as passengers aboard a space ship for a 120 year journey . A morality play comes into view when Pratt’s character, who himself is accidentally awakened out of hibernation 90 years early, decides to revive a beautiful young woman from her pod without her permission.

Director Morten Tyldum (“The Imitation Game” 2014) did a marvelous job with excellent production values throughout. The well written screenplay by Jon Spaihts gives the viewers plenty to chew on. Pratt and Lawrence take up most of the screen time, with only a handful of co-stars such as Laurence Fishburne as the chief officer, Andy Garcia as the ship’s captain, and Martin Sheen as the android bartender.

“Passengers” was a hit at the box office for Columbia Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures, Wanda Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing. It received two Oscar nods for Best Original Score (Thomas Newman) and Best Production Design, and was filmed in Georgia.
