My Review

“Allied” is a World War II romantic drama film about a Canadian intelligence officer who marries a member of the French resistance. One year into their marriage, his superiors tell him that she might be a German spy. Director Robert Zemeckis (“Forrest Gump” 1994) and screenwriter Steven Knight keep things running smoothly up until the last half of the movie when some inconsistencies in the story and far-fetched plotlines crop up. Despite these flaws, the movie is watchable and is worth a viewing.

Brad Pitt and French actress Marion Cotillard are running on all cylinders in the lead roles. Great acting, good chemistry, and photogenic traits are all evident here. Co-stars include Jared Harris, Matthew Goode, Lizzy Caplan, and Simon McBurney as an S. O. E. official (the spy boss). “Allied” was a success at the box office but did not make a profit because of the large production budget and advertising expenses. Bad news for producer Robert Zemeckis, GK Films, and Paramount Pictures. It was filmed in London, UK, and Canary Islands, Spain. “Allied” received one Oscar nod for Best Costume Design.
