My Review

Shirley MacLaine celebrates sixty years in the motion picture industry by appearing in the made-for-television movie “Wild Oats.” At age 82, MacLaine shown only slight signs of aging as she plays a woman who flees America for the Canary Islands after cashing an insurance check for five million dollars that was supposed to be only $50,000.

Producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein, director Andy Tennant (“Sweet Home Alabama” 2002), and teleplay authors Gary Kanew and Claudia Myers created a glossy comedy that is well paced and an excellent vehicle for MacLaine’s talents.

Location shoots in the Canary Islands helped, as does the supporting cast of Jessica Lange, Demi Moore, Billy Connolly, Howard Hesseman, Matt Walsh, and Stephanie Beacham. “Wild Oats” was first aired on the Lifetime Channel in August, 2016. MacLaine made her movie debut in 1955 in the Alfred Hitchcock comedy “The Trouble With Harry.”
