School of Rock (2003)

My Review

Jack Black has the role of a lifetime as an out-of-work guitarist who gets a substitute teaching job at a prep school. He then starts assembling a rock band out of some fifth grade music students to enter into a battle of the bands competition. Director Richard Linklater (“Me and Orson Welles” 2008) put together a solid comedy-drama film which is admittedly formulaic and predicable but entertaining nonetheless.

The cast is headed by Jack Black, whose energy dominates the film. Co-stars include Joan Cusack, Sarah Silverman, Mike White, Lee Wilkof, Adam Pascal, Suzzanne Douglas, and Miranda Cosgrove. “School of Rock” was a big hit at the box office for Scott Rudin Productions and Paramount Pictures. It was filmed in New York City and vicinity.
