The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)

My Review

“The Royal Tenenbaums” is a black comedy about a quirky family whose three adult children have not been talking to their father since childhood, after he left them and their mother. Director Wes Anderson (“Rushmore” 1998) put together an excellent off-beat comedy film with outstanding performances by the lead actors. Anderson co-wrote the script with Owen Wilson.

The cast includes Gene Hackman as Royal Tenenbaum, Angelica Huston as his wife, Ben Stiller, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Luke Wilson as the three adult children, Danny Glover, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Seymour Cassell, and Alec Baldwin as the narrator. ‘The Royal Tenenbaums” was popular at the box office for Touchstone Pictures, American Empirical Pictures, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company. It was filmed in New York City, and received one Oscar nod for the screenplay.
