The Ultimate Gift (2006)

My Review

“The Ultimate Gift” is an inspirational drama film about a young man whose inheritance is put on hold while his late grandfather attempts to teach him some life lessons via video tape on a television screen. The drama proceeds from there, well handled by director Michael O. Sajbel and screenwriter Cheryl McKay. It was adapted from the 1991 novel of the same name by Jim Stovall.

The cast includes Drew Fuller as Jason Stevens, James Garner as Howard “Red” Stevens, Bill Cobbs, Abigail Breslin, Lee Meriwether, and Brian Dennehy. This was Garner’s final film role in a movie career that began in 1956. “The Ultimate Gift” underperformed at the box office for Fox Faith, PorchLight Entertainment, and 20th Century Fox. It was filmed in North and South Carolina. Two sequels followed – “The Ultimate Life” (2013) and “The Ultimate Legacy” (2016).
