The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)

My Review

“The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” is a spy thriller film about a CIA agent and a KGB operative who must team up to prevent a Nazi sympathizer from building a nuclear bomb. Director Guy Ritchie (“Sherlock Holms” 2009) put together a film with enough action sequences and charismatic stars to distract from the mediocre storyline and poorly written screenplay, which he co-wrote with Lionel Wigram. (This is per usual for Ritchie movies.) It is based on the television series which ran on NBC from 1964-1968.

The cast includes Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Hugh Grant, Elizabeth Debicki, Luca Calvani, Christian Berkel, and Jared Harris (son of Richard Harris). “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” was a huge box office bomb for Ritchie/Wigram Films, RatPac-Dune Entertainment, Davis Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was filmed in Italy and England, with excellent cinematography by John Mathieson.
