My Review

“Creed” introduces the story of Adonis Johnson, son of the late heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who leaves his white collar job to pursue his dream of becoming a professional boxer like his father. Director Ryan Coogler (“Fruitvale Station” 2013) gave the film good character development, a consistent storyline, top-rate acting, and an acceptable screenplay he co-wrote with Aaron Covington. This is the seventh installment in the “Rocky” franchise. Direct sequels include “Creed II” (2018), “Creed III” (2023), and “Creed IV” (in development).

The stars of the show are Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Graham McTavish, Liev Schreiber, and Hannah Storm. “Creed” was a big hit at the box office for producer Sylvester Stallone, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, New Line Cinema, Chartoff-Winkler Productions, and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was filmed on location in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 133 minute movie received one Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actor (Stallone), and won a single Golden Raspberry Award for the Razzie Redeemer Award, also for Sly, for “someone who comes back from critical or commercial failure.”
