My Review

The fascinating life of boxer, businessman, and television personality George Forman is told in biographical movie “Big George Forman.” It tells Forman’s life story from his rise from a childhood in poverty to professional boxer to church pastor to commercial businessman. This faith-based film shows his personal and professional struggles and his religious conversion in the chronological order of his life.

Khris Davis does a good job in capturing George Forman’s personality on screen, dominating the picture. He had outstanding guidance from director George Tilman Jr. (“The Longest Ride” 2015), who also co-wrote the screenplay with Frank Baldwin. Co-stars include Jasmine Matthews as his wife, Forest Whitaker as Doc Broadus, John Magaro as Desmond, Sam Trammell as Rev. Stokes, Sonja Sohn and Erica Tazel as his daughters, Sullivan Jones as Muhammed Ali, Lawrence Gilliard Jr. as Archie Moore, Matthew Glave as Howard Cosell, Carloe Takam as Joe Frazier, and Tom Virtue as Johnny Carson.

The inspiring “Big George Forman” is a production of Affirm Films, Mandalay Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing, unsuccessful at the box office. It was filmed in New Orleans and Shreveport, Louisiana.
