“The Creator” is a science fiction action film set in the near future amidst a war between the human race and the forces of AI (artificial intelligence). A special forces agent is recruited to find and kill “The Creator,” the war’s architect. Producer-director Gareth Edwards (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” 2016), who also wrote the screenplay with Chris Weitz, created a movie that is full of action, fantastic special effects, and good acting, but at several points in the film is foggy on details.
The cast includes John David Washington (son of Denzel Washington), Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Allison Janney, Sturgill Simpson, Marc Menchaca, Ralph Ineson, Michael Esper, Veronica Ngo, and Madeleine Yuna Voyles as Alphie.
“The Creator” was only a modest success at the box office, barely making enough money to cover the budget and advertising expenses, bad new for Regency Enterprises, Entertainment One, 20th Century Studios, and The Walt Disney Company. It was filmed primarily in Thailand and other locations in Southeast Asia. “The Creator” got two Oscar nods for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.
