The Wizard (1989)

My Review

“The Wizard” is a family film about three youngsters traveling to California to attend a gaming convention, as the youngest, a nine-year-old, is a computer-game genius. To complicate matters, they are pursued by the boy’s father and brother and a bounty hunter. The hilarity and drama proceeds from there. This highly entertaining family movie was directed by Todd Holland and written by David Chisholm.

The cast includes Luke Edwards as Jimmy “The Wizard” Woods, Fred Savage and Jenny Lewis as his brother and sister traveling companions, Beau Bridges and Christian Slater as their father and brother, with Will Seltzer, Wendy Phillips, Sam McMurray, Jackey Vinson, Marisa DeSimone, and Tobey Maguire in a small part, his first big screen role. “The Wizard” has some modest success at the box office for The Finnegan/Pinchuk Company and Universal Pictures. It was filmed across Nevada and California, including Universal Studios.
