The Pelican Brief (1993)

My Review

Producer-director-screenwriter Alan J. Pakula created an exciting and fast-moving film adapted from the complex political novel “The Pelican Brief” by John Grisham, published in 1992. Julia Roberts plays a law student who goes on the run when a legal brief she writes becomes a political hot potato. She is aided by a reporter played by Denzel Washington. Great chemistry between the two future superstars.

The supporting cast includes Sam Shepard, John Heard, Tony Goldwyn, James Sikking, William Atherton, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Anthony Heald, Cynthia Nixon, Christopher Murray, Hume Cronin (in one of his final film roles), and Robert Culp as the President of the United States.

The very watchable “The Pelican Brief” was the tenth highest grossing film of 1993 for producer Alan J. Pakula and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was filmed in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Washington, D. C.
