Legendary movie director Blake Edwards (“The Days of Wine and Roses” 1962 & “10” 1979) began to loose the Midas Touch towards the end of his career with films like “Blind Date.” The story features Bruce Willis and Kim Basinger out on a blind date that goes awry. Edwards and screenwriter Dale Launer seemed to intend this film to be a modern-day screwball comedy but get chaos instead.
Flat performances by Basinger and Willis are also a factor, with the later in his first lead role. The supporting cast includes John Larroquette, William Daniels, Phil Hartman, Joyce Van Patten, Stephanie Faracy, Barry Sobel, Armin Shimerman, and jazz musician Stanley Jordan as himself. The musical score by Henry Mancini seems to be the only redeeming quality of “Blind Date,” a modest success in theatrical release from Delphi Productions and TriStar Pictures.
