The Cobbler (2014)

My Review

“The Cobbler” is a fantasy comedy-drama about a shoe repairman who is able to assume the form of anyone when he puts on their shoes, if it repaired by a stitching machine left to him by his grandfather. Director Tom McCarthy (“Win Win” 2011), who co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Sado, designed the film as a vehicle for the talents and humor of Adam Sandler. As such, there are some humorous moments but basically the film falls short due to bad writing and lackluster direction.

The cast behind Sandler includes Ellen Barkin, Melonie Diaz, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Dan Evans, Fritz Weaver, Yul Vazquez, Steve Buscemi, and Dustin Hoffman. “The Cobbler” was a big flop at the box office for Golden Spike Productions, Next Wednesday Productions, Voltage Pictures, and Image Entertainment. It was nominated for two Golden Raspberry Awards: Worst Actor (Adam Sandler) and Worst Screen Combo (Adam Sandler and any pair of shoes). It was filmed in New York City.
