Unplanned (2019)

My Review

“Unplanned” is a drama film about the real-life story of Abby Johnson, a Planned Parenthood clinic director who firmly believed in a woman’s right to choose, until a life changing experience turned her into a pro-life activist. Directors-screenwriters Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman (“God’s Not Dead” 2014) put together a lucid movie with good production values and professional performances from the actors.

The star of the show is Ashley Bratcher as Abby Johnson, a genuine and heartfelt performance depicting Johnson’s transition from pro-abortion to pro-life. Bratcher has appeared in a number of faith-based films, including “War Room” (2015) and more recently in “Finding Faith” (2024). Co-stars include Brooks Ryan, Robia Scott, Jared Lotz, Emma Elie Roberts, Robin DeMarco, and Mike Lindell as the foreman.

“Unplanned” was met with mixed reviews, including criticism from Planned Parenthood, claiming the motion picture promotes falsehoods. However, “Unplanned” was a success at the box office for producers Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman, Soli Deo Gloria Productions, and Pure Flix Entertainment.
