My Review

“K-9” is a comedy action film where James Belushi plays a cop who enlists the help of a police dog in working a particularly difficult case. There is friction at first, but after a while Jerry Lee the dog demonstrates some helpful crime-fighting abilities. This stock comedy was capably directed by Rod Daniel (“Teen Wolf” 1985), with an adequate script written by Steven Siegel and Scott Myers.

James Belushi’s co-stars include Mel Harris, Kevin Tighe, Ed O’Neill, James Handy, Sherman Howard, Daniel Davis, Cotter Smith, John Snyder, and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Benny the Mule. The watchable formulaic comedy picture “K-9” was a modest success at the box office for the Gordon Company and Universal Pictures. Three sequels followed, including “K-9000” (1991), “K-911” (1999), and “K-9: P. I.” (2002).
