The Gazebo (1959)

My Review

“The Gazebo’ is a black comedy about a Hollywood director who is being blackmailed by a photographer over nude photos of his wife. The wacky comedy proceeds from there, well directed by George Marshall (“The Blue Dahlia” 1946), screenplay by George Wells, and story by Myra Coppel and Alec Coppel. It was adapted from the 1958 play by Alec Coppel.

The top-notch cast turn in good performances including Glenn Ford as the director, Debbie Reynolds as his wife, as well as Carl Reiner, John McGiver, Mabel Albertson, Martin Landau, Bert Freed, Doro Merande, Robert Ellenstein, Harlan Warde, Dick Wessel, and Stanley Adams as the blackmailer. Do yourself a favor and get loads of laughs by screening the watchable screwball comedy “The Gazebo,” which was successful at the box office for producer Lawrence Weingarten and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
