The Last Rodeo (2025)

My Review

“The Last Rodeo” is the story of an aging and retired rodeo star who enters a high-stakes rodeo competition in order to make money to cover his grandson’s medical expenses. Along the way he confronts issues of the past, makes new friends in the present, and discovers faith. Director Jon Avnet (“Fried Green Tomatoes” 1991) put together an engrossing drama about a man dealing with his life situation with the popular rodeo industry serving as the film’s exciting backdrop. He co-wrote the screenplay with Neal McDonough and Derek Presley.

The star of the show is Neal McDonough, who has appeared in a variety of roles over the years, including the Tin Man and President Dwight Eisenhower. Co-stars include Mykelti Williamson as his best friend, Sarah Jones as his daughter, Graham Harvey as his grandson, and Christopher McDonald as the owner of the rodeo. The watchable “The Last Rodeo” has been in general theatrical release for producers Neal McDonough and Jon Avnet, Brooklyn Films, The McDonough Company, Red Sky Studios, and Angel Studios.
