My Review

“Afterburn” is a futuristic science fiction movie taking place ten years after Earth’s technology was decimated by a solar flare. The story centers on a treasure hunter who works for wealthy clients seeking objects that survived the apocalyptic event, in this case the invaluable Mona Lisa painting. Director J. J. Perry (“Day Shift” 2022) put together a mediocre action film dominated by bad production values, a poorly executed storyline, lousy performances, and a barely passable screenplay. It was written by Matt Johnson and Nimrod Antol, adapted from the graphic novel (a novel in comic strip format) of the same name by Scott Chitwood, Paul Ens, and Wayne Nichols.

The cast includes Dave Bautista, Samuel L. Jackson, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt, Kevin Eldon, Eden Epstein, Phil Zimmerman, George Sumner, and Kristopher Hivju as Gen. Volkov, a warlord who rules part of France. The unwatchable “Afterburn” was a box office bomb for executive producer Dave Bautista, Endurance Media, Original Film, Dogbone Entertainment, and Inaugural Entertainment. Principal photography took place in Slovakia.
