Director-screenwriter Damien Chazelle (“La La Land” 10`6) has attempted to capture the wildness and hedonism of Pre-Code Hollywood (1927-1934) in “Babylon.” He succeeded on that score, with the positive side instilling the picture with good production values (cinematography and musical scoring) and worthy performances from the actors, but failing to create enjoyable entertainment with a meandering storyline, and graphic and offensive and creepy content, at a very lengthy running time of just over three hours.
The cast includes Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Jean Smart, Eric Roberts, Olivia Wilde, Lukas Haas, Toby McGuire, Albert Hammond Jr., and Jennifer Grant (daughter of Cary Grant and Dyan Cannon). The unwatchable garbage “Babylon” was a huge box office bomb for Marc Platt Productions and Paramount Pictures. It received three Oscar nods for Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Musical Score (Justin Hurwitz). It was filmed in Southern California.
