Eddie Murphy returns as Detroit cop Axel Foley, whose boss is killed, with evidence that the murderer has ties to a California amusement park called Wonder World. So it is back to L. A. in “Beverly Hills Cop III” and a reunion with his old friend detective Billy Rosewood. Director John Landis (“Twilight Zone: The Movie” 1983) did an excellent job on this second sequel to the first two BHC pictures (1984 and 1987). He kept the relationship between Axel and Billy, putting it into a fresh and new setting in a theme park, reminiscent of Disneyland.
The cast includes Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, Alan Young, Hector Elizondo, Timothy Carhart, John Saxon, Al Green, Joey Travolta, Helen Martin, Jon Tenney, Bronson Pinchot, Gil Hill, John Singleton, George Lucas, and Disney songwriters Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman. The watchable and hilarious “Beverly Hills Cop III” was a hit at the box office for Neufeld/Rehme Productions, Eddie Murphy Productions, and Paramount Pictures. The next sequel would be “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” (2024) starring Murphy, Reinhold, and Pinchot.
