My Review

Bette Davis delivered a stunning performance as a partying socialite who finds out she has a terminal illness in “Dark Victory.” Director Edmund Goulding (“A Night at the Opera” 1935) was a total professional at the helm of this picture, ensuring marvelous performances among a star-studded cast, good production values, and top-notch writing. The screenplay was written by Casey Robinson, adapted from the 1934 stage play.

The co-stars with Bette Davis includes Humphrey Bogart, Ronald Reagan, George Brent, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Henry Travers, Cora Witherspoon, Virginia Brissac, and Dorothy Peterson. The watchable melodrama “Dark Victory” was successful at the box office for Warner Bros. Pictures. It was nominated for three Academy Awards with one winner in Bette Davis for Best Actress. Non-winners include Best Picture and Best Original Score (Max Steiner).
