“Den of Thieves” is a crime drama about a Los Angeles County Sheriff who tries to stop a group of high-powered criminals from robbing the Federal Reserve building in L. A. Director-screenwriter Christian Gudegast, in his big screen debut, does an excellent job of putting together an exciting action film with good production values, acceptable performances, and an engaging story developed by Gudegast and Scheuring. It was primarily filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, with cover shots in Los Angeles.
Gerard Butler is perfect as Sheriff Nick O’Brien, a role right in his wheelhouse. Co-stars include Pablo Schreiber, O’Shea Jackson Jr. (son of Ice Cube), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Meadow Williams, Brian Van Holt, Evan Jones, Dawn Olivieri, and Eric Braeden as Ziggy. This is Braeden’s final film role up to this point. The watchable “Den of Thieves” was a success at the box office for producer Gerard Butler, Diamond Film Productions, Tucker Tooley Entertainment, and STXfilms. A sequel was released in 2025 – “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera” – featuring Butler and Jackson.
