My Review
“Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square” is a holiday musical film about a wealthy woman who announces that she will be evicting the residents of a town by selling the land to a developer. This throws the town into an uproar, in a story reminiscent of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Director-choreographer Debbie Allen did a fantastic job orchestrating this made-for-television movie from the teleplay by Maria S. Schlatter and music composed by Dolly Parton.
The cast includes Christine Baranski, Treat Williams, Josh Segarra, Jeanine Mason, Jenifer Lewis, Mary Lane Haskell, Brandon Huston, and Parton as the angel. The watchable “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square” was released on Netflix in November, 2020 from Magnolia Hill Productions and Warner Bros. Television. It won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Television Movie and Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Program.
