My Review

“Gringo” is the comedy-drama film about an American businessman who travels to Mexico for business and suddenly finds himself in trouble with drug dealers and black ops personnel. He calls his bosses and claims to be kidnapped for a ransom of five million dollars. The drama drags on from there, with poor direction by Nash Edgerton and a disorganized script by Matthew Stone and Anthony Tambakis. The film has a messy and disorganized plot and badly conceived characters.

The talented cast is clearly over-qualified for this mediocre crime drama. The actors include David Oyelowo, Charlize Theron, Joel Edgerton, Amanda Seyfried, Thandiwe Newton, Sharlto Copley, Alan Ruck, Harry Tredaway, Hernan Mendoza, Yul Vasquez, and Bill Maher as himself. The unwatchable disaster area “Gringo” was a flop at the box office for producer Charlize Theron, STXfilms, Blue-Tongue Films, Denver + Delilah Productions, Road Show Films, and Amazon Productions.
