“Karate Kid: Legends” is a new story in the Karate Kid franchise featuring a kung fu prodigy from Beijing who must learn to blend his Chinese martial arts with the late Mr. Miyagi’s style. He is helped out by Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) and the original karate kid, Daniel Russo (Ralph Macchio). Director Jonathan Entwistle and screenwriter Rob Lieber put together a decent drama respectful of the original films and an enjoyable motion picture on its own merits.
Along with Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, the cast includes Ben Wang as the new karate kid, Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight, Wyatt Oleff, Tim Rozon, and the late Pat Morita in archival footage. The watchable “Karate Kid: Legends” was a solid hit at the box office for Columbia Pictures, Sunswept Entertainment, and Sony Pictures Releasing. It was filmed in Montreal, Canada. Other “Karate Kid” pictures came out in 1984, 1986, 1989, 1994, and 2010.
