My Review

After a series of deaths in a town, an expert, played by Lionel Barrymore, is called in and he determines they were caused by vampires in “Mark of the Vampire.” Director Tod Browning put together a decent horror film with good writing, respectable performances, and the right amount of thrills, chills, and spills. The screenplay was penned by Guy Endore and Bernard Schubert.

The cast includes Lionel Barrymore, Elizabeth Allan, Bela Lugosi, Lionel Atwill, Jean Hersholt, Henry Wadsworth, Donald Meek, Ivan F. Simpson, and Carol Borland as Luna. A good example of good old fashioned horror movie fun, the watchable “Mark of the Vampire” was popular at the Depression Era box office for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. James Wong Howe was in charge of cinematography.
