Hugh Jackman stars as a man whose young daughter has been kidnapped in “Prisoners.” Director Denis Villeneuve put together an intense crime drama that frankly goes too long for a melodrama that has a 153 minute running time. Villeneuve and screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski needed to shave perhaps twenty to thirty minutes off of the finished product.
The cast behind Jackman all did well with their expected melodramatic performances, including Maria Bello, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Melissa Leo, Paul Dano, Terrence Howard, Len Cariou, and Wayne Duvall as Captain O’Malley. “Prisoners” did well at the box office for Alcon Entertainment, 8:38 Productions, Madhouse Entertainment, Summit Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was nominated for one Academy Award for Best Cinematography (Roger A. Deakins).
