“Suburbicon” is a dark comedy about a suburban family in 1959 who face all sorts of troubles like a home invasion, family problems, and racial tension in the neighborhood. Director George Clooney (“The Ides of March” 2011) put together a black comedy which is almost incomprehensible and very difficult to follow. Sloppy direction and a poorly written script by Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, Grant Heslov, and Clooney are the culprits. This film is a disorganized mess!
The cast mostly deliver mediocre performances including Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, Noah Jupe, Oscar Isaac, Glenn Fleshler, Alex Hassell, James Handy as Mayor Billings, and Richard Kind as the voice of John Sears. The unwatchable nonsense “Suburbicon” was a flop at the box office for producer George Clooney, Dark Castle Entertainment, Black Bear Pictures, Smokehouse Pictures, Silver Pictures, Bloom Media, and Paramount Pictures. It was filmed in Fullerton, Orange County, California.
