Somewhere in Time (1980)

My Review

“Somewhere in Time” is a romantic fantasy drama about a man in 1972 who falls in love with a young woman in a photograph of her from 1912. He discovers he can travel back in time by way of hypnosis, and proceeds to do so, but her jealous manager vows to keep them apart, and the drama proceeds from there. This film never really has much credibility or believability due to weak direction by Jeannot Szwarc and a shaky screenplay by Richard Matheson. It was adapted from the 1975 novel by Matheson.

The films stars Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour as the two time-traveling love birds, Christopher Plummer as her agent, Teresa Wright, Bill Erwin, Eddra Gale, William H. Macy, Don Franklin, and John Alvin. The unwatchable “Somewhere in Time” was a flop at the box office for Rastar and Universal Pictures. It received one Oscar nod for Best Costume Design, and was filmed on Mackinac Island, Michigan.
