My Review

“A Great Awakening” is a historical drama detailing the unlikely friendship between fiery evangelist George Whitefield and Enlightenment thinker Benjamin Franklin in the 1730’s and 1740’s during the Great Awakening religious revival in Britain and her thirteen American colonies. Director Jonathan Enck created a riveting drama about these two men which keeps viewers engaged for the film’s two hour running time. This is a fascinating look into the era leading up to America’s independence from England. He co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Bender and Jonathan Blair.

The cast is headed by John Paul Sneed as Ben Franklin and Jonathan Blair as George Whitefield. Both seem to personify the two men. Co-stars include Josh Bates as Alexander Hamilton, Carson Burkett as John Wesley, and Russell Dean Schultz as George Washington. The watchable “A Great Awakening” has had some success at the box office for Sight & Sound Films and Roadside Attractions. It was filmed in Pennsylvania and Delaware.
