A Man Called Otto (2022)

My Review

Tom Hanks delivers another gem of a performance as a cranky man who has trouble getting along with neighbors in “A Man Called Otto.” Director Marc Forster (“Christopher Robin” 2018) and screenwriter David Magee strike a good balance between very serious topics and light material. They helped Hanks in his performance as he slowly peeled back layers of Otto’s life to show how he got into his life situation.

The supporting cast includes Mariana Trevino, Rachel Keller, Manuel Garcia-Ruffo, Mike Birbiglia, Cameron Britton, Juanita Jennings, Peter Lawson Jones, John Higgins, and Truman Hanks (son of Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson) playing the young version of Hanks’ character in flashbacks. The watchable “A Man Called Otto” was barely successful at the box office for producers Hanks & Wilson, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing. It was filmed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
