My Review

“A Mighty Wind” is a backstage mockumentary film about a 1960’s folk music reunion concert. Director Christopher Guest (“Best in Show” 2000), the expert in mockumentary projects such as “Waiting for Guffman” (1996), give us mixed results in this project making fun of folk music. There are some genuine laughs combined with long stretches of yawning dialogue from the screenplay he co-wrote with Eugene Levy.

The cast includes Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Harry Shearer, Michael McKean, Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Fred Willard, Bob Balaban, Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Begley Jr., Larry Miller, Bill Cobbs, Paul Dooley, and John Michael Higgins. The barely watchable “A Mighty Wind” was a modest hit at the box office for Castle Rock Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was filmed throughout Los Angeles County, California. The movie was nominated for one Oscar for Best Original Song (“A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow,” written by Michael McKean and Annette O’Toole).
